Immediately following the 2013 version of the Kentucky Trailblazers week long wagon train from Shelbyville to Renfro Valley, a group of 8 wagons headed to the 66th Daniel Boone Festival held annually in Barbourville in southern Kentucky. While this was not an "official" event of the Trailblazers club, most of the wagons were owned by members of the Trailblazers and club hats, shirts and flags were much in evidence. The small group left Renfro Valley on Sunday morning as many others were packing up to return home. The wagon train travelled to the farm of Roger Bullock where they spent Sunday night in the only rain storm of the week. After about an inch of rain overnight, Monday dawned as a beautiful, cool day that found the group travelling through some populated areas on the way to Levi Jackson State Park outside of London, Kentucky. Tuesday was spent resting in the London area and a large number of the participants went to the flee market and sale at the local stockyard where two horses and one mule were added to our group. In addition, there was some horse trading among the members of the group itself with some mules and buggies finding new homes. On Wednesday, the wagon train resumed it's trek toward Barbourville and arrived there on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday and Friday were spent relaxing in the Barbourville area. The group was invited to attend the annual Daniel Boone Festival Fest on Friday evening where we had some great food and were entertained by some Cherokee Indian dancers from North Carolina. On Saturday, the Daniel Boone Festival Parade was the big event of the day and the entire group participated with our horses or mules and our wagons. After the parade, it was not hard for me to end this two weeks on the road and to head home. Just as I did with the Renfro Valley photos, I've broken up the photos that I took into the days of the week as this makes it easier for the viewer to follow the events as they happened.
There were thousands of people lining the streets of Barbourville for the parade.
