2013 Rader Wagon Train
The 2013 version of the annual Rader Wagon Train got underway on the
morning of Wednesday, July 17, 2003 from beautiful Columbiana Farm just outside of Paris, Kentucky. This was the second year for this
event. The plan was to spend 3 days covering the 54 miles between Paris and Hillsboro where Danny Crawford had a weekend wagon ride
scheduled. Unfortunately, the hottest weather of the season thus far was predicted for this period with temperatures in the low 90's (F)
with high humidity. This resulted in heat index numbers around 100 or above with the threat of afternoon thunderstorms each day. As a
result, we kept a slow pace and took several rest and water breaks over the three day period. The mules were fine, but a couple of
the horses showed some signs of stress at different times over the three day ride. However, we were able to complete the ride with
no major problems and we had no weather issues to deal with along the way.
