2013 Coopers Ride
Each year Sam and Barbara Cooper invite the members of the Community
Draft Horse and Mule Association to their farm near Minerva Kentucky for a weekend wagon ride in mid June. This year, the weekend of
June 22-23 turned out to be at the height of the hay season. Just about everyone had their corn, tobacco, and beans in the ground
and were trying to make use of the warm sunny weather to get their hay cut and baled. Seven wagons and buggies left the farm on
Saturday morning and rode down to a riverside park in the beautiful little Ohio River town of Augusta Kentucky
where the group stopped for lunch. The day was fairly warm with temperatures in the upper 80's. We met several park
visitors and enjoyed providing them with short rides. When we returned to the Cooper farm, we all enjoyed a great meal
and lots of fellowship. On Sunday, we again had 7 wagons and buggies that left the farm with the group. We took a
different route that took us down to Dover Kentucky, another little town on the Ohio River. On the way back to the Cooper's farm,
the route involved a long uphill climb with several rest stops for the teams along the way. We only covered about 14 miles on Sunday,
but there was a nice breeze and everyone seemed to have a really great time.
