2012 Ohio Horse Plowing Contest was held on Saturday
April 28, 2012 at Carriage Hill Farm in Huber Heights just north of Dayton
Ohio. Carriage Hill is a part of the Five Rivers MetroParks
System of Dayton and has hosted this event for the past several
years. As in the past, they will also host the National Plowing
Contest over the Labor Day weekend in September of this year.
weather leading up to this event was unusually warm and dry for the
spring time in Ohio, but that all changed on event day. The day
started out dreary and cool with a threat of showers and thunderstorms
during the day. However, there were plenty of contestants who
showed up to compete. Things got started at about 9AM, a little
earlier than planned in an attempt to beat the weather. Along
about 11AM, however, the rains arrived and there was about 60 minutes
of showers and even some rumbles of thunder and lightening in the
area. Several contestants loaded up and hit the road to head
home, while others huddled together under a canopy to wait things out.
A few of the vehicles needed assistance to get out of the wet fields as
you will see in the attached photos. After the rains subsided, a
couple of contestants went back out and plowed their muddy plots. In
fact, the high points winner for the day was Dave Wilson who was one of
those who plowed after the rain. These are not the ideal
conditions for taking photos that I would have liked and I apologize in
advance as there are only a few photos of some of the
contestants. I hope you enjoy what photos we were able to
obtain. We look forward to returning to Carriage Hill Farm for
the National Plow event in late summer.
